Bob Stewart has joined Carr Allison, effective February 1, 2016, in its new Jacksonville Florida Office. Bringing more than 30 years’ experience representing clients in the transportation industry, Bob comes to Carr Allison from his most recent position as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of XPO Logistics Inc., a top 10 global provider of transportation and logistics solutions. Bob held a similar position for Overnite Transportation Company (now UPS Freight) and has several years of experience with globally and nationally known defense firms McGuire Woods (Jacksonville, FL) and Jackson Kelly (Charleston, WV), respectively.
Bob has been at the forefront of the legal battle to preserve the owner operator model against class action attacks alleging improper classification and Teamster organizing efforts. He also works with companies to strengthen their business models from legal attack and position them to best defend against such attacks when they occur. Bob has substantial experience in handling class action lawsuits alleging misclassification and wage and hour violations.
Bob also handles non-compete litigation for employers in the transportation industry and brings substantial experience to Carr Allison in handling an array of employment issues including FLSA collective actions, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, Pregnancy Discrimination, Equal Pay Act, and FMLA claims.
He has substantial trial experience in handling multi-million dollar truck accident tort claims including traumatic brain injuries, paralysis, burns, and death claims. In addition to directly handling class actions, and significant tort claims, Bob uses his management experience gained from his years as in house counsel to serve as National Coordinating Counsel for clients in handling significant labor, employment, and tort claims. Bob’s experience positions him well to serve as outside general counsel to smaller transportation companies with limited internal legal resources to provide the benefits and reassurance of in-house general counsel.
