Nixon Successfully Defends Client

Faith Nixon of Carr Allison’s Mobile (AL) office successfully defended her client in a federal court jury trial in Mobile (AL).  The case involved students at a local college. One night at a fraternity party, a verbal altercation began between the soccer team members and the golf team members.  The golf team members, being out numbered 3 to 8, started leaving the party but were followed by the soccer team. Ms. Nixon’s client, a member of the golf team, then turned around and struck the closest soccer player to him, the Plaintiff.  The Plaintiff was knocked out immediately and fell to the concrete.  He suffered a fractured skull and brain bleed.  He testified at trial that due to his injuries he had to withdraw from the college and return to Greece (his home country) which deprived him of his dream to become a doctor, he could never play soccer again due to the head injury and he still today has issues including chronic migraine headaches. Plaintiff requested approximately $775,000 in damages (compensatory and punitive).  The jury returned a verdict for $1.00 in compensatory damages and $20,000 in punitive damages.
