Allan S. Jones is a shareholder in Carr Allison’s Birmingham (AL) office where he serves as co-chair of the firm’s insurance section. He represents many national and international clients in the insurance industry on insurance-related matters and handles all coverage and extra contractual litigation in Alabama for multiple insurance carriers. Allan frequently lectures on a variety of insurance topics. He served as both regional and contributing editor of DRI’s 2010 Bad Faith Law Compendium. Allan’s practice concentrates on coverage litigation and defending both carriers and professionals against extra contractual claims in state and federal courts as well as arbitration and other forums.
Allan has successfully defended insurers and professionals against claims of fraud, bad faith and punitive damages. He is frequently retained to provide consultation and guidance on the interpretation and application of a wide variety of insurance contracts, including general liability, excess/umbrella, admiralty, environmental, errors and omissions, all types of professional lines, environmental, construction and builder’s risk. He has guided several multi-line carriers through defense, indemnity and other coverage issues involving multi-million dollar exposures such as asbestos claims, remediation of pollution and environmental claims, multi-fatality accidents, corporate fraud and the resolution of claims by commercial enterprises that have suffered large losses.
Allan has served on the Board of Directors of the Professional Liability Attorney Network (PLAN) for the last eight years in various roles. Most recently, Allan served as PLAN’s chair in 2017-2018, having served as vice-chair the year prior, and will be “retiring” from PLAN’s Board in June 2020.
