  • On March 24, 2010, the United States Supreme Court admitted Carr Allison's Virginia Gambacurta as part of a Swearing In Ceremony sponsored by the Defense Research Institute's Young Lawyers Committee.  In addition, Carr Allison shareholder Lea Richmond, who was already a member of the U.S. Supreme Court , moved the Court for Ms. Gambacurta's admission as well as nine other members of DRI's Young Lawyers Committee.  The motion was granted by Chief Justice Roberts and each of the ten attorneys were admitted after being sworn in by the Clerk of the Supreme Court.

    The Young Lawyers Committee is the largest committee within DRI.  Membership is open to all defense lawyers who have been practicing law for ten years or less.  The committee provides young lawyers opportunities to network throughout the country and refine their work professionally. Mr. Richmond serves as Chair of the Young Lawyers U.S. Supreme Court Subcommittee.

  • Congratulations to Thomas C. Logan for being recognized in the February 12, 2010   "Who's Who in Law and Accounting" section of the Birmingham Business Journal.  This list includes top leaders contributing to the continued success of Birmingham's Legal and Accounting industries.  Mr. Logan serves as managing partner of the firm.

  • Kathy Davis has recently been designated the National Coordinating Counsel for Zurich's Reactive Drywall Cases involving Distributors.  This work will mainly involve "Chinese" drywall cases in various states and the MDL case currently pending in the Eastern District of Louisiana before Federal Judge Eldon Fallon.  According to Florida's Department of Health, there were 2,749 case in 37 states as of January 2010 and this number is expected to climb.
  • The Birmingham Bar Association's Spring 2010 Bulletin includes an
    article written by Carr Allison shareholder, Kathy R. Davis.  The
    article discusses the differences in "green" contracts and non-green
    contracts and the legal issues involved.  There is also a discussion of
    the unique "green" damages that may result from failure of the design or
    construction to meet the intended green goals or to attain a particular
    "green" certification.

    Ms. Davis serves as Chair of the firm's Construction Law Group, focusing
    her practice on handling construction law cases, general litigation
    cases, and insurance coverage matters.  She is the former Chairperson
    for USLAW Network's Construction Litigation Group.  Ms. Davis serves as
    Chair of the DRI subcommittee on Construction Defect Litigation. She is
    a frequent author and lecturer on topics involving construction law and
    insurance coverage.
